NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) national mental health team in partnership with ELFT are inviting people to attend a virtual event on the 22 November 2021 from 1pm to 2.30pm.
The purpose of the event will be to discuss ways to improve experiences and outcomes of care for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic patients and carers in mental health services. This will help inform the development of the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF), which was one of the key recommendations of the Independent Review of the Mental Health Act agreed by the government.
NHSE/I recently published its first Advancing Mental Health Equalities Strategy, which sets out the actions the NHS will take to reduce inequalities in mental health.
The PCREF is an important part of this strategy, as the aim is to roll out the PCREF as a guiding framework in order to support NHS Trusts to improve Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic experiences of care in mental health services. In partnership with East London NHS Foundation Trust, who are supporting NHSE/I to help develop and test the PCREF, it is really critical we get to hear from you on your experiences in mental health services to help drive the changes needed to improve the experiences of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities in and or accessing mental health services.
The event will be hosted by Dr Jacqui Dyer, national Mental Health Equalities Advisor for NHSE/I and chair of the Advancing Mental Health Equalities Taskforce and the PCREF Steering Group, alongside hearing from Lorraine Sunduza, ELFT’s Chief Nurse and Deputy CEO.
The event will cover:
- Overview on the Key priorities for the Advancing Mental Health Equalities Strategy
- Overview of the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework from a national perspective
- Hearing from ELFT’s Experts by Experience, Mina and Jennifer, recruited to support in the development of our local PCREF
- Interactive discussion on the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework – the National Organisational Competencies
- Next steps and the ask on our participants
Please join us on this very important event to help shape the PCREF.
