The Big Health Day event is being held by the Trust’s Newham Transitional Practice to provide a one-stop health and help shop for clients experiencing homelessness and those that are vulnerably housed.

The event will be at Bonny Downs in Flander Fields on Thursday September 30 and will include free food and drinks, health and social care support, sports activities, gardening advice and flu jabs.

There will also be free supplies of clothes for men, women and children and other help and advice including attendance by the tissue viability team and drug and alcohol support services.

The day has been organised with support from the NEWway project in Newham and will also include a dental van, Newham Talking Therapies, ELFT Ramhp rough sleepers team and Change Grow Live (CGL).

National firms Wilko and Subway have also provided donations for the day, as have Leyton Sixth Form College – who are also providing 10 volunteers on the day.

It is being held to support anyone in Newham who is:

· experiencing homelessness

· living in a hostel, hotel, temporary accommodation or is sofa surfing

· not registered with a GP or finding it hard to register with one

“This is a collaborative project led by Newham Transitional Practice to raise awareness of the service and of all the help available to anyone in the Newham community affected by issues of homelessness or struggling to access primary care,” said Dr Mohit Venkataram, ELFT executive lead for primary care.

“Our ability to work as partners in a system and change the outcome for our vulnerable users is a outstanding example of a system population health outcome. I am humbled by the dedication of our teams at Newham Transitional practice and colleagues in the wider system who have set aside organisational boundaries to improve the life outcomes for these vulnerable residents.”

Newham Transitional Practice (NTP) is a GP practice which operates from The Centre Manor Park and Vicarage Lane Health Centre Stratford. NTP delivers comprehensive primary healthcare services on a transitory basis to residents of Newham who have experienced difficulties in registering locally with a GP.
