A free direct service for people experiencing mental health distress or crisis is for everyone who lives or works in Newham.

The Crisis Line is a 24 hours service open every day to provide immediate access to a clinician via the telephone – no screening, no threshold, just a response to a self-defined crisis.

The clinician will be able to talk the service user through their options and provide care and containment in the least restrictive way possible.

The line is available to anyone who has concerns about their own mental health and is also open to friends or relatives with concerns for someone’s welfare.

Residents of Newham do not have to be known to mental health services and do not have to go via their GP for referral. GPs and other professionals can also call for advice and crisis referrals.

Whilst many issues can be resolved on the phone or by onward referral to other services, the Crisis Hub has a multidisciplinary team who can see the person face to face for a thorough assessment within 4 hours if this is what is needed.

This can be at the Hub or in the home dependent on the wishes of the Service User.

We also have the benefit of being co-located with and being staffed by the same professionals as the Home Treatment Team so the same clinician can assess and then offer follow up to those needing a more comprehensive piece of crisis resolution.

The Newham Mental Health Crisis Hub number is 0800 073 0066.
