City & Hackney Specialist CAMHS

Specialist CAMHS in the City of London and the London Borough of Hackney is part of the CAMHS Alliance. 

The Alliance is a partnership of services that support children, young people and their families with wellbeing and mental health. 

Specialist CAMHS services are for children and young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties which have been going on for some time, are complex or are severe.  Most young people will have had mental health support through their school or through First Steps before coming to Specialist CAMHS.

People Participation

There are several different teams within Specialist CAMHS which work in slightly different ways.  The teams are:

  • Emotional & Behavioural Team
  • Behaviour Support & Outreach Team
  • Neurodevelopmental Team
  • Wellbeing and Mental Health in Schools Team
  • Mental Health Support Team in Schools
  • Adolescent Mental Health Team
  • Paediatric Liaison Team

Mental Health Support Team in schools

The MHST offer support for mild to moderate mental health difficulties in primary and secondary schools where children or young people are referred by the school pastoral team.

Wellbeing and Mental Health in Schools Team

The WAMHS team work with school staff to develop whole school approaches for mentally healthy schools.

Neurodevelopmental Team

The NDT team assess children and young people for Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), they also run groups and can provide therapeutic work.

Giving feedback or making a complaint

We welcome your feedback and want to be as responsive as we can to your experiences, good and bad.  There are three effective ways of talking to us about your views and experience.

1. Participation - We have a dedicated Participation Worker who has lived experience of using CAMHS.  They will listen to any feedback or experience of CAMHS and there are monthly youth and parent/carer forums where people using the service can have their say and work alongside staff to improve the service.  Go here for Participation

3. Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) - PALS can help you make an official complaint if the service has not responded to your feedback
