CHAND
CHAND: CHildren with Autism in Newham Diagnosis Service

Who are we?
Our service offers the Autism Diagnosis Pathway for children and young people aged 2 - 18 years in Newham. Working with families, our multidisciplinary team will gather information and observations, aiming to form a unique picture of the child’s abilities and challenges.
If a child meets the criteria for an Autism diagnosis, it can help families, professionals and communities have a greater understanding of the unique way in which that child navigates the world. This can lead to better connection, better learning and the opportunity to achieve their true potential.
What does CHAND mean?
In Sanskrit-based languages like Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi, the word ‘chand’ means 🌙 moon, a symbol of light and calm.
In Old English and French, the word chand comes from candle and chandelier, bringing light and warmth into the world. This word reflects both the rich, diverse community we serve and the ethos of our work because we believe that every child deserves to shine.
