Upper Limb Splinting
Upper Limb Splinting
Our Aim...
Is to help children and young people engage in upper limb activities and to keep fingers, hands and wrists healthy and active in order to participate in all the activities that they need and want to do.
We work with children and young people who have high safety needs and risk of deformity due to complexity of needs, as well as children with milder needs, who are experiencing pain, hypermobility in their joints or who are having difficulty managing everyday tasks.
- Some children and young people will be given an exercise programme to follow.
- Some will be provided with functional splints to be worn during daily activities: These splints provide the hand and wrist with extra support and stability.
- Some children and young people with more complex needs, may require a 'resting splint' that is worn during rest or sleep and stretches the muscles of the hand to promote range of movement.
In addition, we maintain close links with our partners at the Royal London Hospital Hospital where we work together to jointly review and monitor children and young people with upper limb needs.
