Who is this pathway for?
If your child is aged up to 7 years old and they have been referred for Speech and Language Therapy because they stammer or stutter, they will be placed on the Fluency / Stammering Pathway.
What to expect at 'Fluency / Stammering' sessions:
We provide assessment and intervention for children with dysfluency (stammering) up to 7 years of age. Once we receive your referral and your child is accepted into our service, we will contact you to book you on to our pathway for sessions.
This pathway includes an initial assessment with a Speech and Language Therapist followed by therapy sessions or advice (depending on your child’s needs). During the individual sessions, the therapist will continue to assess your child and provide recommendations and advice. Following these sessions, you will have a consolidation period to implement learnt strategies as part of the therapy programme. Your therapist will write a report and will discuss the next steps with you. Your child’s report will be sent to you, their nursery and GP. Your child may also be referred on to other services if required. If appropriate, we can signpost to external stammering agencies such as the Michael Palin Centre for children over 7 years old for further support.
