ELFT Dying Matters Awareness Week Webinar
"Finding the Right Words"
Tuesday 7 May 2024
13.00-14.00
Featuring ELFT Specialist Nurses Emma Robinson and Claire Porter
Why is it important that health professional think about this?
It can hard to find the right words at such a sensitive time but to not speak honestly, openly and in a timely way to individuals and families can have consequences. It can prevent people having discussions about their wishes in their final weeks/months, and stop people sorting out their affairs and having important conversations.
Why you should attend?
Whatever specialty you work in, it is likely that you will find yourself in a position when a patient/service user/carer wants to talk to you about their diagnosis, their prognosis or need your support with advanced planning. You may also find yourself supporting conversations about death and dying between patients and their families and loved ones, or even wanting to have a conversation about it with your own family.
So tune in to hear from Ruth, Emma and Claire, who will talk about how they approach these types of discussions, share some of their experiences - positive and negative - and take your questions.
Looking After Yourself if Experiencing Loss
Discussions on this theme maybe upsetting to staff who have recently lost someone or who are currently in a situation where a family member or friend is on an end of life care pathway. You can find a list of useful resources and organisations here
