Rest of England Governors
I was raised in Southgate(North London) but my father was born and bred in Hackney. I went to medical school in Cambridge and then spent 30 years in New York City as a surgeon in several large inner city hospitals treating patients from underserved communities.
During that time, I held several hospital leadership roles. For the last two years, I served in Harlem as Director of Surgical Education at the City University of New York School of Medicine. 85% of my students were of colour, either immigrants or first generation US-citizens.
I have just become the Executive Clinical Dean of a medical school in the Caribbean. As a proud citizen of the UK, I am keen to give back to the NHS, as thanks for providing me with a world-class medical education, by serving a local trust which might benefit from my past experience and expertise in clinical medicine and strategic thinking.
I believe that my decades of experience working with minority populations in New York City have prepared me well to sit on the ELFT Council as the trust delivers healthcare services to diverse populations very similar to my old New York communities. I look forward enthusiastically to reconnecting with my family-roots in Hackney as a member of the ELFT Council of Governors.
