Tower Hamlets Governors
I presently serve on a number of Clinical Research Steering Groups as a PPI (Public Patient Involvement) member including being on the NIHR (National Institute of Health Research) Academy, the James Lind Alliance, Katies Team, UCL Co-Pro, and many more. I give an invaluable contribution to developing medical tools, gadgets, and Apps. I also understand the need for strategic changes in policy and regulations to make reasonable changes to deliver a better health service which I thoroughly enjoy and learn from.
With over 11 years of PPI experience, I am very confident in voicing my opinions (with diplomacy) and the opinions of the BAME community. I recently (July 2022) spoke at the GLOW (Global Women’s Health Research) Conference at Birmingham University amongst leading doctors and professors.

John is currently the Chair of the Significant Business and Strategy Committee of the Council of Governors.
To be completed
From childhood I have cared for and supported family members with mental health issues and learning disabilities. I’ve been their advocate to mental health and learning disability services, social care and housing.
I was an elected councillor in Tower Hamlets for 24 years, serving on health scrutiny panels for the borough and north-east London and on a Health and Wellbeing Board. I worked to improve health services and ensure different parts of the NHS and local government came together to make a difference to people’s lives. Representing local people and their concerns effectively was key to that work.
I’ve been a charity finance director for 22 years, making sure that money is spent where it has the most impact. I was also the lead councillor for finance for many years working to make services serve residents well and contributing to financial decisions in the face of funding reductions.
I’ve lived in Tower Hamlets for over 30 years and worked in east London for 17 years.
The work of ELFT is central to helping people in east London, Luton and Bedfordshire thrive. I make use of my skills and experience to represent members, local residents and the wider public; to contribute to making sure ELFT’s services work well for our community; and to hold non-executive directors to account.
