Christmas isn’t ‘jolly’ for everybody. Many people will be without loved ones, and others simply won’t be in the Christmas spirit. It’s important that we look out for these people, so they know there is support available and others feeling the same.
If you are somebody who is struggling, read our advice below which we hope you may find useful.
Look after yourself
- Remind yourself that Christmas is only temporary. It may be helpful to consider a ‘start’ and ‘finish’ of the Christmas period, to help yourself get through it.
- Understand that it’s normal to not feel jolly. Many people will be feeling the same way as you do, and it is completely valid to not enjoy this time of year. Be kind to yourself.
Talk to other people
- Speak to those around you about your struggles. It can really help to open up about how you’re feeling, especially to people you trust and rely on.
- Be transparent about what people can do to help you. If there are activities you would or wouldn’t like to be involved in over the festive period, be honest about these.
