Over this bank holiday weekend, it’s important for service users and the wider ELFT community to know where to go to find the right support. This can help people to find the treatment they need more quickly.
Consider whether you need urgent medical attention
If you’re unsure if you need urgent medical care, we advise that you call NHS 111 as the first port of call. Trained advisers can direct you to the correct place to receive support.
Our emergency departments are expected to be extremely busy, and should only be used in a life-threatening emergency.
Use local pharmacies or GPs where appropriate
This will enable you to receive treatment in a more comfortable environment, while also freeing up availability for those that require life-saving care.
GP appointments are available seven days a week in the evening, on weekends and on bank holidays. Call your practice, or if is closed, call NHS 111 to book.
It’s expected that many pharmacies will remain open over the weekend, who will be able to support you with minor health conditions. Over the counter medications can be used to alleviate symptoms of viruses, such as cold or flu, without needing antibiotics.
Ensure that your medication is stocked up
We would also like to remind the community to ensure you have plenty of medication to last you over the weekend.
However, if you do run out, you can:
• Visit your nearest pharmacy
• Speak to NHS 111
• Ring your GP out of hours service
• Visit a walk-in centre
Contact your dentist for urgent dental treatment
However, if you are unable to contact your dentist or do not belong to one, NHS 111 will be on hand to help you to book an urgent appointment with an out-of-hours service.
