Aamir Ahmad is now Acting Vice-Chair for London and Deborah Wheeler has been appointed Acting Vice-Chair for Bedfordshire and Luton.
The appointments were made as the Trust was mindful of the additional workloads of the current Vice-Chair Eileen Taylor, who is now also the Acting Chair. The intention is to also expand our capacity in the two systems we operate in – Bedfordshire, Luton & Milton Keynes Integrated Care System and North East London Integrated Care System to ensure we are participating and contributing in a full and effective way.
The change also ensures there is a named individual to provide support should the Acting Chair be indisposed for any reason.
“Every Non-Executive Director at ELFT feels an incredible sense of responsibility in our role to provide independent views, advice and challenge in helping the Trust continue to provide outstanding patient-centred care,” said Eileen Taylor.
“The appointment of Aamir and Deborah as Vice-Chairs is wonderful news and will further progress that work through additional support and area-specific insight.”
Aamir joined the Trust in November 2018 as a Non-Executive Director. He is a well-versed entrepreneur, having founded a number of businesses in retail and hospitality including founder and CEO of furniture retailer Dwell.
Deborah joined the Trust in January 2021 as a Non-Executive Director. She trained as a nurse at St Bartholomew's Hospital, spending her clinical career in orthopaedic nursing before moving into nursing management. She has been Director of Nursing at several NHS trusts in London.
The changes took effect from July 1 2022 and will end in line with the Acting Chair’s term of office or December 31 2022, whichever comes first.
