Lucia, Corporate Lead Nurse in Education and Development, received her award at the Royal College of Physicians in London on Tuesday, March 18, in recognition of her charity work as a founder of the Zimbabwe Life Project (ZLP). ZLP is dedicated to improving mental health care in Zimbabwe.
Lucia spoke at the event in the morning and afternoon sessions, where she shared the platform with speakers including NHS health leaders, the British Ambassador to Zimbabwe Pete Vowles, and many more.
The award ceremony was opened by Lord Crisp, former Chief Executive of the NHS and co-Chair of All Party Parliamentary Group on Global Health.
The summit was officially opened by Malawi’s Minister of Health, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner to Africa, and ELFT Chief Executive Lorraine Sunduza OBE, who spoke about her career and leadership.
The Trust’s Global Health Director, Dr Nick Bass attended day two of the Summit and spoke about ELFT 's work in Uganda, Kenya and other countries.
Lucia said: “I’m truly grateful to have received the Diaspora Healthcare Champion Award, which recognises my dedication, leadership, and contribution to global health.
“It was an honour to receive this award in the presence of Dr Maunganidze, Zimbabwe’s Permanent Secretary of Health, Dr Pasi, Permanent Secretary of the Health Service Commission, officials from the British Embassy in Harare, and the Zimbabwe Deputy Ambassador to London, Mr Levi Mukono alongside colleagues from ZLP.”
