Volunteers are the backbone of our community, providing essential support and making a significant impact on the lives of patients and staff alike. This week is dedicated to highlighting their invaluable service and the profound difference they make every day.
Yesmin Begum, Tower Hamlets Governor
"I am a community organiser who supports individuals in my community. I won the Royal Voluntary Champions Award in 2023. As a Governor at ELFT, I represent the local community’s interests and contribute to the Trust's strategic direction. I am dedicated to ensuring high-quality healthcare services by engaging with stakeholders to uphold accountability. Becoming a Governor interested me because of the opportunity to shape healthcare services and advocate for patients' needs.
I highly recommend volunteering with ELFT as it allows active participation in governance, contributes to positive change, and provides valuable insights into healthcare policy and practice. Serving as a Governor is a rewarding experience, offering the chance to make a real difference in healthcare provision and contribute to the shared mission of providing compassionate care to all."
Rofikul Islam, Tower Hamlets Governor
"My name is Rofikul Islam. I am a Public Servant by profession and a Member of the Council of Governors at the East London Foundation Trust. I take great pride in volunteering for East London NHS Foundation Trust due to its numerous advantages. This role enables me to contribute positively to our communities by assisting patients and supporting constitutional functions. Through this engagement, I have acquired valuable skills in the healthcare sector and gained a better understanding of the needs of our diverse communities.
Volunteering has significantly contributed to my personal development by exposing me to a range of environments and challenges, thereby enhancing my understanding of the NHS and my teamwork capabilities. Furthermore, it has afforded me the opportunity to network with healthcare professionals, various stakeholders, and community members, which is invaluable. Above all, volunteering instills a profound sense of purpose and fulfillment, knowing that my efforts have a meaningful and positive impact on the community."
