Our Data & Analytics Team has been awarded a prestigious HSJ Digital Award for its role in bringing integrated analytics into the hands of clinicians across east London and Bedfordshire.
The Awards – which took place on Thursday, 6th June in Manchester – aims to showcase the best technological innovation across the healthcare system by celebrating achievements of teams and individuals driving digital transformation. Over 1,000 people attended from almost 200 finalists, demonstrating widespread tech adoption across the NHS.
This year saw 343 overall entries across all categories at the Awards, assessed by a panel comprised of highly regarded figures across the NHS and the wider healthcare sector stemming from clinical, leadership and digital roles.
The Team has developed a suite of applications to support staff use powerful statistical tools to aid continuous improvement. The project has enabled colleagues to view system pressures and improvements by using over 20 applications across mental and community health, as well as corporate services.
Specifically within inpatient services, wards have been able to manage routine tasks including risk assessments, health checks and service user stay details via data visualisation software Microsoft Power BI. As a result, one City & Hackney-based staff member has been able to save over three hours per night shift – reducing time spent completing audit tasks.
Speaking about the Team’s win, ELFT’s Chief Quality Officer, Dr Amar Shah, said: “The ability to access a range of data easily, to be able to understand how we’re doing as a service, what to focus on, and how things are changing over time is absolutely key to being able to improve.
“The Data & Analytics Team has undertaken a huge amount of work over the last five years to completely redesign our data architecture and storage, and build brand new analytics with our clinical and corporate teams that can be accessed anytime, from any device.
“I’m thrilled that this ground-breaking work, utilising some advanced statistical analysis, has been recognised and celebrated through this Award.”
The Trust’s Associate Director for Business Intelligence and Data & Analytics Team Lead, Tom Nicholas, added: “The Data & Analytics Team has been on a great journey over many years to support services with innovative dashboards, containing powerful statistical tools to improve the care they provide.

“This Award is testament to our successful collaborations with our staff and service users across the Trust; without their time and insight we could not have achieved this success.”
