Bright sunshine and a strong wind was a blessing and a curse but that didn’t stop our wonderful runners completing the course and achieving their goals.
The ELFT Charity Runners
- Clare Goodwin, an administrator in older people services in Tower Hamlets, used the run to celebrate 22 years of working in the Trust.
- Bedfordshire-based Fit Test Service Coordinator Jackie Warren achieved a personal best knocking 13 minutes off her usual time for a 13 mile run. Amazing when she only started running just before her 50th birthday!
- Hackney OT Sydney Nickerson took the race more slowly as she has a baby on board! The baby wasn’t on board when she signed up for the race last year!
- John Hawke was running in honour of his mum, Haley Hawke who sadly died last year. Haley worked in the Newham Home Treatment team and is terribly missed by the team and the service users that she supported.
- Forensic psychiatrist, Dr Ben Gostick, managed to train despite his medical rotation taking him to West London in the weeks leading up to the race. He is now back at the John Howard Centre in Hackney.
- And Children’s Matron Beck Daniels? Well, what can you say about the human dynamo that is Becks Daniels. Sunday’s race was just one of 12 monthly physical challenges she plans to achieve this year!
Chief People Officer and Executive Director for the ELFT Charity, Tanya Carter, said, “A huge thank you to all our runners for their incredible efforts in raising so much money for the ELFT Charity. It is not just the activity you see on the day of the race, but all the months of training and preparation behind the scenes. And a special thank you to John Hawes for turning a very difficult time in his life into something so positive.”

About the London Landmarks Half Marathon
The London Landmarks Half Marathon is a wiggly route taking in key landmarks in London. This year, the course was reversed to avoid congestion at a wreath-laying event in Whitehall. There was also a delay in the start due to an incident at Chancery Lane where the course had to be re-routed to enable access for emergency services. But there was still a party atmosphere inspiring runners and spectators alike, driven by live music and the energy of the roadside crowds.
Nerves, Excitement and Final Donations
There was nerves and excitement leading up to Sunday. One of our runners dreamt she had forgotten her bib and number, was told she couldn’t take part in the race, and had to return all her sponsor money!!!! Not likely!
In fact, it’s not too late for you to make a donation! Sponsor one of the runners retrospectively:
