Stonewall has recognised the Trust for its continued progress in creating a welcoming workplace where LGBTQ+ colleagues can bring their full selves to work.
ELFT has achieved a bronze recognition award in the national charity’s annual Workplace Equality Index.
Stonewall, Europe’s largest charity for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer (LGBTQ+) rights, publishes an annual Top 100 Employers List. The list recognises exceptional employers who are committed to creating a welcoming workplace for LGBTQ+ employees.
ELFT has also seen its ranking on the 2024 list rise to 156 out of a total of 256 organisations, up from last year’s position of 210.
The Trust has its own LGBTQIA+ Staff Network and continued progress has been made over the last year to creating an inclusive workplace, including holding the 2024 LGBTQIA+ Network Conference, ‘Bringing Your Whole Self to Work’ and participation in the London Pride and UK Black Pride events.
Richard Harwin, Co-Lead of ELFT Staff LGBTQ+ Network (he/him), said: “I’m really pleased that ELFT has made significant progress in this year’s index. This shows our commitment to ensuring a workplace environment free from discrimination, and where all staff can bring their whole selves to work.”
More than a third of LGBT staff (35 per cent) have hidden who they are at work for fear of discrimination. This means LGBTQ+ people often feel that they have limited options when applying for jobs – or that the work culture isn’t for them when they do land a job.
Colin Macfarlane, Director of Programmes and Income at Stonewall (he/him) said: “The Workplace Equality Index draws participants from diverse industries and sectors, all of whom understand that inclusivity is the future and are leading the way in this vital change.”
