More than ninety guests joined Dr Mohit Venkataram, ELFT Executive Director for Primary Care, and guest speaker Dame Lesley Regan at 'The Future of Primary Care' webinar on October 19, 2022.
Dame Lesley Regan - a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Imperial College, Chair Wellbeing of Women Charity, and the first Women's Health Ambassador for England - guided the discussion on women's health and addressed key themes:
- the health and gender equality
- the conversation on the impact of menopause
- access to women's health
- the implementation of the upcoming Women's Health Strategy for England.
The presentation generated many thought-provoking questions from guests, which included GPs, gynaecologists and health professionals from across the country.
“Many of us actively participated in the pay and gender equality battle,” said Dr Venkataram.
“Our conversation today is recognising the role we have together as a society in equity and equality.”
“I would like to hear from ELFT colleagues, particularly those working in primary care who have a real understanding of their communities, and all the people that tuned in this evening about what I can do to make them feel included,” added Dame Lesley Regan.
“I welcome criticism, thoughts, and constructive comments about what we can do to make things better, particularly in cutting through the bureaucracy so that women can access help when they need to.”
“The drive and energy that you bring clearly give us all the ability to support this implementation,” concluded Dr Venkataram.
“So many people have shown such active participation today and clearly many of us would like to be part of this movement.”
“It is such a relief that you are leading the effort now because it does leave me feeling warm that my daughters will have a place in society that is genuinely supportive and fosters them to contribute to the community rather than having to fit into what it already provides.”
