An appeal for donations has been made by an NHS GP practice in Hackney to help support people across the borough experiencing homelessness.
The Greenhouse practice is asking organisations and members of the public for their support in providing long-life food supplies and toiletries, which will be given to visitors at its Homeless Christmas Fair taking place on December 9, 2022.
The fair will be a one-stop health and help shop for people living in hostels or supported accommodation, rough sleepers, sofa surfers and people who spend a significant amount of time on the street or in public places.
The donations of food and toiletries will provide invaluable support for Greenhouse clients ahead of the freezing winter months.
The fair will be held at the practice in 19 Tudor Road. Donors can help make an impact by dropping donations directly at the practice or by calling the practice at 020 8510 4490 for more information.
Free supplies of clothes for men, women and children will also be available, along with free haircuts, health and social care support, flu jabs and other help and advice for visitors.
The Greenhouse is part of East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT), a provider of primary care, community health and mental health services.
“Initiatives like this make me incredibly proud,” said Dr Mohit Venkataram, Executive Director for Primary Care.
“This event reflects the complete commitment of our inspirational Greenhouse colleagues and partner agencies to be creative and innovative in how we support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”
The fair team are also hoping the event will provide an opportunity for members of the community to learn more about the needs of people experiencing homelessness and generate interest in volunteering.
Sanjidah Hussain, Administrator at Greenhouse and event manager said: "This fair is all about partnership and making sure people feel supported across the borough."
The Greenhouse supports anyone in City and Hackney experiencing homelessness, living in a hostel, hotel, or temporary accommodation, or who is sofa surfing or not registered with a GP or finding it hard to register with one.
