Congratulations to Dr Amar Shah who has received an MBE in recognition of his contribution to healthcare.
Amar has been a key agent for change in guiding the Trust's improvement journey over the last 12 years. He has also been working at a national level for some time, leading the design and delivery of large-scale improvement programmes in the field of mental health, through his role as national improvement lead at the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych).
Dr Shah said, "I am delighted to be recognised in this way. It has been a joy and privilege to support staff, service users and families to be able to apply quality improvement in order to make a difference to people’s health and care. This honour is wholly down to the creativity and commitment of our wonderful staff and patients, working together to improve care – at ELFT, as well as in my work at the Royal College of Psychiatrists and NHS England."
Eileen Taylor, Chair of ELFT said, "On behalf of the Trust Board, I would like to congratulate Amar on this wonderful and well-deserved recognition of the contribution he has made to the health of our communities in East London, Bedfordshire and Luton. Amar has always ensured that patient leadership is at the heart of ELFT’s organisational improvement approach and this has been essential to every improvement success we’ve achieved. His approach has meant that our staff, service users and carers, and local partners have been empowered and enabled to work together to improve care and improve outcomes. We are so proud of Amar and the impact of his commitment and leadership - locally, nationally and internationally."
As Chief Quality Officer, Dr Shah leads on quality, performance, data and analytics, strategy and planning. The National Clinical Director role is a part-time secondment to NHS England, which is leading the adoption and application of quality improvement across the health and care system in England.
