Hundreds of local people in North East London responded to a call to join the COVID vaccination workforce to help deliver the vaccination programme. It drew people from all walks of life and many different occupations. For many, this has been their first job in the NHS and in recognition of their skills, the NHS wants to keep them!
With many different roles and career paths in the health and social care sector in North East London (NEL), there are no end of opportunities. So ELFT as the lead employer for the NEL COVID vaccination workforce is holding an online Careers Day for vaccination centre staff to consider their next move.
Virtual Careers Day
The event which will happen on 24 May from 9.30-16.30 will have over 20 local health and social care employers in 'virtual' rooms for attendees to join and talk to. There will be a series of workshops running throughout the day to support staff in writing an attention-grabbing applications, preparing for an interview and honing their interview skills to convey what they can bring and how to get the most out of the interview.
There will be short films featuring vaccination centre staff who have already moved into new roles in the NHS, and talks from employers about the type of skills and talents they need to provide the best quality care to patients, service users and their families.
Chief People Officer, Tanya Carter, is keen to encourage people to continue to work in the NHS. She said "With over 900 vaccination workforce staff across the region, this is a real opportunity to support them to get into traditional training programmes to become nurses, doctors, therapists, social workers and researchers, or start on a career path in administration and management.
We have benefitted from their tremendous people skills, and their ability to quickly adapt and learn with a can-do approach. They have helped the NHS and the local community at a really critical time - so I am keen that we give them something back in return - a long and rewarding career in local health and social care services."
