Casmir Ebegbulem was invited to Buckingham Palace as part of celebrations to mark the 75th birthday of HM King Charles III and was introduced to the king.
Casmir, a member of the Bedfordshire Community Health Services (BCHS) team based at Twinwoods near Bedford, was among hundreds of internationally educated nurses and midwives recognised through the royal reception event.
Describing the moments just before he came face to face with King Charles, he said: “I could feel my heart beat faster, but I maintained my cool, because it is an opportunity not many people get!”
The 26-year-old said he felt proud and humbled to represent ELFT and his birthplace Owerri, Imo State, in his home country of Nigeria.
“Working as a district nurse has been nothing short of amazing, it has given me a new challenge, which brings out the best in me and makes me go a step beyond.”
Casmir trained as a registered nurse and midwife at the prestigious Abia State University in Uturu Nigeria, achieving a bachelor’s degree in nursing science and graduating in 2020. In 2022, while still working, he started his UK migrant plans and sat for and passed all of his required examinations.
He joined ELFT earlier this year.
