Clinical Associates in Psychology (CAP) was named Best Educational Programme for the NHS at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Partnership Awards 2023. It was also Highly Commended in the Mental Health Partnership within the NHS award category.
The HSJ Partnership Awards were held on March 23.
The CAP programme had also been named Workforce of the Year at November’s HSJ Awards 2022.
ELFT and other NHS providers have been working closely with local Higher Education Institutions to develop the new apprenticeship in psychology, working with people with complex mental health problems.
The HSJ Partnerships entry was led by the national group of CAP trainers, which is co-chaired by Dr Pete Keohane (University of Plymouth) and Dr Paul Fisher (University of East Anglia).
ELFT’s Director of Psychology Dr Ravi Rana joined Dr Keohane and Dr Fisher on the panel that presented to the HSJ judges.
Judges described CAPs as ‘an accessible training pathway which embeds widening participation and demonstrable benefit to communities. This is workforce transformation and has recognisable service benefit across systems and MDTs.’
The award was collected by members of the national group of trainers, chairs, NHS Trailblazers, CAP supervisors and CAPs.
“We are all incredibly proud that through the CAP programme the psychology professions have been able to take a lead in demonstrating how apprenticeships can successfully bring innovation, diversity, inclusivity and stability to our workforce," said Dr Rana.
