James Xavier is the new People Participation Lead for adult mental health services in Luton.
James has already worked closely with Trust teams and other service users over the last three years through involvement with QI (Quality Improvement) projects, as a QI lead, as a DIALOG+ trainer, as a MAPA (Management of Actual or Potential Aggression) trainer and in delivering Medical Education training among many other roles.
“People participation has helped me build my self-confidence and empowerment,” he said.
“I applied for this role as I felt I could do more to help others reach their own potential and find new meaning, beyond a diagnosis to the person with lived experience.”
PP enables service users and carers to have a say in how we run the Trust and is about working together so we can offer a better service to all.
James said his priority will be encouraging and empowering as many service users as possible.
“I want to meet them all, find out what change they would like to see. Then help them to find their strengths and interests to ensure that any work they undertake in people participation is rewarding, enriching and most of all, help them further on their own journey.”
He also emphasised the value that service users and carers can bring in shaping meaningful change within the NHS.
