The annual list features ELFT Chief People Officer Tanya Carter and Non-Executive Director, Dame Donna Kinnair DBE.
The Health Service Journal (HSJ) compiles the list of the BAME figures it believes will exercise the most power and/or influence in the English NHS and health policy over the next 12 months.
Tanya was also included on last year’s list and on the HSJ’s ‘rising stars’ list in 2021.
The HSJ described Tanya as ‘one of the growing number of NHS directors from ethnic minority backgrounds who are beginning to attract national attention’.
Judges noted her ‘amazing’ work around discrimination, stretching from board to individual level and her increasing influence over a wider field, with other trusts and government departments approaching her for advice.
Tanya joined ELFT in 2016 and was appointed Chief People Officer two years later. She has extensive experience of working in the NHS and other parts of the public sector and spent a brief time as an HR consultant with PwC.
“I feel proud to be recognised, particularly during Black History Month, and this is recognition of the work by so many incredible colleagues here at ELFT to champion equality, diversity and inclusion,” she said.
Dame Donna Kinnair joined the Trust in January 2021 as a Non-Executive Director.
She is a Non-Executive Director at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; a Board Member of the NHS Race & Observatory and of UCL Partners (health research); and a Trustee at Burdett Trust for Nursing.
Dame Donna was formerly General Secretary and Chief Executive of The Royal College of Nursing (RCN). Donna has held various roles including Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine, Executive Director of Nursing and Director of Commissioning. She specialised in child protection, providing leadership in major hospital Trusts in London, teaching, and advising on legal and governmental committees.
"I am honoured to be recognised for the work I do with so many people and organisations ensuring that we give all patients and service users the best equitable care we possibly can," she said.
Black History Month 2023
October is Black History Month 2023 and has the themes of ‘Eliminating prejudice is everyone’s business’ and ‘Saluting Our Sisters’- honouring the achievements of Black women.
Tanya participated in a Saluting Our Sisters event and the month is also supported by the ELFT Race and Culture Equity Network (RaCE) staff network.
The network provides support to colleagues and advises the Trust on the development of services and policies in order to address inequalities and advance race equality.
