Oxygen Therapy

SSNT support children receiving oxygen therapy in the school setting. This may be a continuous requirement or for emergency purposes only. We will provide education and assess practical competencies of teaching assistants. This care delivery aspect will need to be included on the child’s school care plan. The SSNT will hold a meeting with family and school to review and sign the school care plan which needs to be in place before a child can commence school. The care plan is reviewed annually or as soon as there is a change in care delivery needs.

We work closely with Air Liquide (oxygen delivery company) reviewing oxygen prescriptions regularly to ensure school have a safe supply of oxygen in accordance with the child’s up to date oxygen requirement. As oxygen carries a fire risk, Air Liquide and the Fire Rescue Service will work with our team to ensure your child’s school is safe to hold oxygen on site and perform regular field based risk assessments to assess the fire risk. Schools should have a current fire risk assessment and guidance can be provided on what schools need to have in place before they can accommodate a child with oxygen on site.

Children will have a home supply of oxygen; this should not be used in school. School will have their own supply and are responsible for maintaining the sufficient supply of oxygen on site. Supply can be replenished by contacting: Air Liquide: 08081439991​.
