Children who have a stoma in situ are cared for by their specialist stoma nurse. The hospital will provide all supplies and can provide support with care plans and awareness training.
The SSNT can support with ongoing awareness training. This care delivery aspect will need to be included on the child’s school care plan. The SSNT will hold a meeting with family and school to review and sign the school care plan which needs to be in place before a child can commence school. The care plan is reviewed annually or as soon as there is a change in care delivery needs.
Newham council will collect clinical (medical) waste for residents for free. Call 020 8430 2000. Depending on the child’s needs the council can arrange for a regular collection, or on an as needed basis. Information on this service can be found here.
