If a child has a complex wound that needs dressing and is already under a shared care team e.g. Diana or CCNT and is under our service also, we can facilitate dressing changes in the school environment.
The SSNT continually review the skin integrity of children on our caseload and if there are any concerns of skin breakdown or pressure sore risks, we will step in to deal with this. We can also refer to the Tissue Viability team if this is needed.
The SSNT are skilled in managing granulation and granulomas for enteral devices and will support with supplies and dressings for these needs. We can support with training parents to manage wounds but would not expect teaching assistants to manage this aspect of care delivery.
Please see our training page for any upcoming courses.
