How did you start to think about your eating disorder (and your recovery) during treatment?
When I was first referred to Rehana, she asked me what I thought my recovery looked like and what it is I struggled with. I was blown away - this was the first time a specialist had asked me what my recovery could/should look like. Rehana was able to work with me to understand my cultural and traditional values, especially as family meals, religious occasions and celebrations all hinged around traditional food. Rehana was quick to identify that away from concerns around size and weight, I actually struggled to eat as I had many food fears – particularly around traditional food.
So, you felt like the service understood your individual needs?
I really appreciated the fact that I was being offered support by BAME women. This is very important to me, as I feel like they were able to understand my narrative and offer me support in the context that worked for me. I felt like an individual - like I was being treated as Selina and just not another statistic.
