Path to Recovery (P2R) Central Bedfordshire

P2R is a one-stop service that provides drug and alcohol advice, treatment and support to adults whose lives are affected, support can include the whole family. We provide an integrated service with a range of expertise available in one place.

Two Path 2 Recovery nurses and SMART have opened a new women-only clinic in Bedford called Kate’s Place.

Kate’s Place has been set up to support vulnerable women within the Bedford area who are sex working, exploited, in domestic violence relationships, homeless or rough sleeping or looking for additional support from a range of agencies. Please contact us if you require further information.

What can you expect?

When you arrive, we will welcome you and arrange for someone to come and talk to you in private about your issues and how they are affecting you. We will find out what steps you want to take, what your Immediate goals are and what your more long-term hopes are.

What next?

Following this assessment, we will start to plan the next steps with you. We will work with you to try to address any immediate issues straightaway.

You can refer yourself or you can ask your doctor or another professional to refer you.

We take referrals from health and social care professionals, probation, the police, court services and youth service.

Path 2 Recovery is a free, confidential NHS service to help you to make the changes to your drug or alcohol use that you want to make.

After assessment with the service, we will discuss with you the most appropriate treatment options depending on your circumstances.

These might include one-to-one appointments, group work, family appointments, physical health review with a nurse, prescribing for opiate use, medically assisted detoxification from alcohol, and referral and support to access other services.

We’re pleased to announce the launch of the Drug and Alcohol Care Team at Bedford Hospital, here to provide specialist support for patients affected by substance use.

Meet the Team:

Wayne – Drug and Alcohol Liaison Practitioner
Taylor – Drug and Alcohol Recovery Worker

What They Do:
The team accepts referrals from both A&E and ward staff and supports patients by:

  • Providing brief interventions and harm reduction advice
  • Completing onward referrals to community drug and alcohol services
  • Carrying out P2R assessments, where appropriate
  • Advising on relapse prevention medications or offering guidance on opiate substitute therapy
  • Provide support and training to staff about substance use related issues
  • Supporting those on alcohol withdrawal management
     

Who Should Be Referred?

  • Patients attending hospital due to substance use
  • Patients identified as dependent on drugs or alcohol
  • Individuals who may not be dependent but are seeking support to reduce or stop their use
