The Adult Speech and Language Therapy (S<) Service provides assessment and treatment for adults (16 years and over) who have an acquired difficulty with speech, language, dysfluency (stammering), voice (including transgender voice) or swallowing.
The service works within Bedford Hospital, seeing inpatients and also provides an outpatient and domiciliary service to patients with a Bedfordshire CCG GP.
Training, as well as written and verbal handovers are offered to significant others and to those working with adults in the hospital, in residential care and other settings. This enables everyone involved with the adult to provide an appropriate level of support.

Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties)
The IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) website contains information and advice for people who are recommended to have modified fluids or diet.

Thickened fluids are a common intervention for swallowing difficulties which should be recommended by a speech and language therapist following a robust swallowing assessment.
You may be considering using thickened fluids.
