Once your referral has been received, we discuss these at the next available screening meeting. If we accept the referral, you will be sent an opt-in letter for assessment and then added to our assessment waiting list. When an assessment slot becomes available, you will be contacted by our administrative team and booked in. We offer these via video or in person, we are unable to offer telephone appointments. You may have one assessment appointment plus a follow-up, or alternatively, your assessor may take a few sessions to assess your needs and goals for therapy. If you have been referred for systemic couples or family therapy, family members and/or partner will be invited to the assessment. During the assessment, we will explore what difficulties you want help with.
If therapy is suitable we will discuss our therapy options with you. You will then be added to the waiting list for that particular therapy. Whilst on the waiting list, you will be contacted approximately every 3 months to check in, review how things are going, and provide an update regarding your waitlist position and expected start date. When you reach the top of this waiting list, you will be contacted by your allocated therapist to book your first session.
Waiting lists vary depending on several factors, including the type of therapy you have been offered, and whether this is group versus individual etc. At present, on average the waiting time is 12 months from date of referral to first therapy session. For up-to-date waiting times, please call the service.
