Two ELFT colleagues were highly commended in the Shape Shifter category of the Tower Hamlets Together Integrated Care Staff Awards – from a competitive list of 12 nominees in this category.
This was the second annual awards held by Tower Hamlets Together; a borough-wide collaborative within health and social care organisations aiming to improve health and wellbeing of those living in Tower Hamlets.
Rebecca Taylor, who is a Registered Physician Associate and Nonsi Mabhena, a Nurse Therapist within CAMHS’ Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) Pathway, were highly commended for vital work in volunteering to deliver ADHD-specific parenting intervention to support families on the waiting list.
To deliver this, Rebecca and Nonsi participated in an online evidence-based parenting and mental health training programme, provided by Irish charity Parents Plus.
The pair have been leading an ADHD pre-diagnostic group since summer 2023, to discuss with parents how they could manage symptoms at home, while also providing a safe space to discuss any concerns they may have. Once courses have concluded, Rebecca and Nonsi have held catch-up sessions with families to check-in with them about the progress they have made.
In the future, Rebecca and Nonsi hope to expand the group by facilitating training of parents, so they too can lead sessions. They also hope to adapt and deliver the course to school Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) across Tower Hamlets to increase awareness and support young people awaiting assessments.
Commenting on the commendation, Nonsi Mabhena said: “It feels wonderful to be acknowledged for the work we have put into these groups. It is a privilege to run them and a hugely rewarding part of our job”.
