The event was a chance to come together and enjoy the balmy weather. As it was World Caring Day, dedicated to celebrating acts of kindness and care across the globe, staff were out in force to chat with people about their health.
Thirteen organisations, colleagues, and charities in Tower Hamlets supported homeless patients on the day, making significant contributions of clothes, toiletries, and food.
Over a hundred attendees were able to have health checks, including measurements of their weight, height, heart rate, and blood pressure, as well as physiotherapy advice.
Dental students from Queen Mary University of London were providing free samples of oral hygiene packs.
Drinks and a hearty meal were also on offer, along with information about groups and services that support people in unstable accommodation or those who are street-homeless.
One of the patient attendees said, “Health E1, in my view, is an exceptional practice that should be applauded for their endeavours of providing both accessible and compassionate service!”
Another Patient Participation Group (PPG) member who volunteered on the day said, “It was great to come today and volunteer. Health E1 does so much for their patients, so it was nice to give back. I especially enjoyed being able to translate for patients today so they could take away information on some of the services.”
Sarah Warton, PPG Lead at East London NHS Foundation Trust, said, "It was great to be a part of the day, supporting the practice to gain feedback from their patients and supporting services. I loved seeing how engaged each member of staff was with their patients and the passion they have for providing care. The team at Health E1 should be very proud!"
Laura Pisaneschi, Advanced Clinical Practitioner at the practice, added, "The amazing amount of donations and the overwhelming support from the community truly highlight our collective effort. The PPG's dedication to helping out has been instrumental in making this event a success."
Health E1 registers people who are street homeless, sofa surfing, or in hostel accommodation in the borough of Tower Hamlets.
