We are a team of psychological therapists with training in a range of different approaches that are designed to meet different needs. These approaches include:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Psycho-dynamic psychotherapy
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
- Mentalisation-Based Therapy and more.
We work in the Tower Hamlets area to support individuals with long-standing and complex mental health needs. This may mean more than one difficulty that has been present for some time.
If you are coming into contact with us, it’s probably because your GP has written to us requesting an assessment or you have been referred to us by another mental health service.

We treat long-standing, complex mental health needs.
Our Clinical Speciality is Secondary-care, adult mental health.
Psychological therapies can be an effective treatment for a range of emotional, relational and psychological issues.
These can be difficulties such as depression, traumatic experiences, anxiety and relationship difficulties.
The team offers a range of therapies to meet individual needs. When we assess you we will decide together if therapy will best meet your needs, and if so what sort of intervention might help.
What you can expect from therapy at PTS is that it will usually involve a group intervention and/or talking over a number of sessions. In both cases, you will be working in partnership to develop a fuller understanding of your difficulties and thinking about how to make necessary changes. What’s important about therapy is that it provides you with a safe environment where you will be listened to. You will be invited to talk about your emotions and thoughts, and you will be given support to take active steps in your journey to recovery.
Once we’ve received your referral, you’ll be invited to a PTS Information Session. This is a presentation – there’s no requirement to share at this point. You’ll be given more information about the service and what we do. You will also be given information about partnership organisations who we work with, who offer other types of support.
After the Information Session, if you feel PTS is the right service for you, you’ll be in invited to an assessment. This is an individual meeting with one of our clinicians where you’ll have a chance to say in more detail what you’d like help with. It will also give us a chance to work out if we think we can meet your particular needs.
The next step is usually a treatment group of some kind. While some people may feel nervous about joining a group, many people who’ve attended our groups say that meeting other people with mental health issues, while also gaining useful knowledge and skills, is very beneficial.
One person said: “Groups are exceptionally important, you realise that there are others out there with mental issues, and it is no longer so isolating. The first step to recovery is to embrace treatment and meet other people with similar difficulties. They may also be nervous about socialising and be in the same position as you. If you can open up, groups can be really effective.”
